Public Invited to Help Update Master Plan for Lake Sammamish State Park

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is updating the long-term recreation plan for Lake Sammamish State Park and invites the public to participate in the process.

State Parks planners will kick off the planning effort with a workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Tibbetts Creek Manor, 750 17th Ave NW, Issaquah.

Lake Sammamish State Park is a popular day-use destination with two lakefront beaches and trails through deciduous forest and wetlands. This planning process will update the park’s Redevelopment and Restoration Concept Plan, which was adopted in 2007. Since then, several other facilities have been proposed for the park, but due to the park’s limited developable space, they cannot all be included in the plan. State Parks will consider whether the facilities proposed in the 2007 plan are still appropriate for the park and also whether any additional facilities should be considered.

At this initial meeting, Parks staff will provide background on the goals for the planning process and will seek input on the kinds of facilities and projects that should be considered. Specifically, staff will ask the public which projects they consider are most consistent with the State Parks mission and the adopted vision and goals for Lake Sammamish State Park. Information about the planning project is available at:

State Parks is also partnering with the City of Issaquah to analyze the environmental implications of the projects—through an Environmental Impact Statement—that will ultimately be included in a revised plan. Additionally, State Parks will develop cost estimates and a phasing plan for the projects that are included in the revised plan.

The public will have multiple opportunities to comment throughout the process, beginning with the March 29 workshop. Public comment also may be provided online at For more information about the planning process, contact Nikki Fields, Parks Planner, at (360) 902-8658,
